WomanRoc – Taekwondo for Girls Self Defense

For helping women to defend themselves against any sort of physical violence, one of the resilient youths Anika Tasnim has organized self-defense training for women and girls at Rangpur district. Self-defense is a source of freedom for women. Women who are confident in their physical resistance abilities feel more capable and at ease when they are in potentially harmful situations because they know how to defend themselves. Keeping this agenda in mind Anika has completed two sessions with almost forty participants. She hired a martial art trainer named MD. Rezwanul Huq for conducting the sessions. Participants learned basic strategies and techniques of self-defense throughout the four days session, also the importance of self-defense instant strategies to apply in times of getting attacked by back, grabbing hands, basic punch was taught.  The resilient Youth, Anika Tasnim’s program is basically an action-based initiative in her community. Anika believes that maximum girls and women in public places and also in their daily life get harassed and tortured but they tolerate it just because not have any training in self-defense. Her initiative is helping girls and women of her community to be prepared to fight against all forms of physical violence.

For providing self-defense techniques, Anika organized three training sessions with some forty girls in Dinajpur. She hired one of the renowned martial trainer Md. Rezwanul Huq, Director, and Chief Instructor at Freedom Martial Art Academy  Rangpur.  The four days workshop of each session was full of learning for the girls. It was started with a summary of the project, why self-defense is important, and a brief of the four days plan. What to do when someone gets attacked by back, what to do when someone grabs hands, basic punch, what to do when someone tries to attack through your throat, Basic kick, etc are covered.

The girls learned fundamental ways to defend themselves against physical aggression after completing the program. For a long time, one of the participants had been subjected to unwelcome touch by a relative. The attacker used to touch her inappropriately, but the victim didn’t have the strength to tell her family about it because she was afraid of not being believed and because the individual was a close cousin. She was able to defend herself against the offenders after receiving training from the Womenroc workshops.
